K = knit · P = purl · RS = right side · WS = wrong side

01 / Cast on

Begin with 128 stitches.

Using the long-tail cast on, cast on 128 stitches with relaxed tension. This is a multiple of 4. Do not join in the round; turn to work flat.

02 / The two-row repeat

Settle into the rib.

Row 1 (RS) *K2, P2; repeat from * to the end. 128 stitches.

Row 2 (WS) *K2, P2; repeat from * to the end. 128 stitches.

Move the yarn between the needle tips when switching between knit and purl. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the blanket measures approximately 60 in / 152 cm from the cast-on edge, or your preferred length. End after a WS row. Measure laid flat without stretching. There is no fixed total row count.

Join a new ball as needed, leaving tails long enough to weave in securely. Avoid relying on knots. Reserve enough yarn to bind off the full row.

03 / Bind off & finish

Keep the edge relaxed.

Bind off in pattern: knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches as you bind off. Keep the edge relaxed so it does not pull in. Cut the yarn, pull the tail through the final stitch and weave in all ends.

Hand wash gently in cold water, no warmer than 30°C. Do not wring. Press excess water into towels and lay flat to dry. Smooth the rib gently without forcing it to a fixed width.

Make it your own

For another width, calculate the cast-on count using your own rib gauge, then round to a multiple of 4. For another length, repeat to your desired measurement. Size, gauge and yarn changes will affect yarn requirements.
